Oshawa Residence Interior Design

In this light-filled Toronto residence, RZ Interiors was tasked with transforming two children's bedrooms and several key living areas to reflect the family’s needs, lifestyle, and personalities. As the family had recently upsized from a condo apartment and felt overwhelmed by the amount of space in their new home, the design team focused on creating functional, beautiful spaces with clever storage solutions and a balance of sophistication and charm.
The selection and procurement team was involved in the full-scope selection of furniture and accessories throughout the property, ensuring each selection was perfectly suited to the space. The team meticulously considered size, scale, and volume to create a cohesive, functional layout that maximized the design’s impact while maintaining balance and harmony throughout.

Bedrooms
The children’s bedrooms are a testament to personalized design, with themes inspired by the kids' favorite colors, subjects, and interests. For the girl’s bedroom, we incorporated flamingo accent wallpaper, a rich walnut wood bed frame, and subtle hints of gold and pink. The clean, whitewashed walls and modern design enhance the room’s spaciousness, while a millennial pink stool adds a playful touch to the vanity area. The boy’s room features a monochromatic palette of indigo blues, copper accents, and natural tan leathers, creating a timeless yet eclectic atmosphere. Carefully selected furnishings, like a chic tan armchair and tonal cushions, ensure the room feels both comfortable and uncluttered.
“We always start by thinking about how people use the space”
Lifestyle
Beyond the bedrooms, the family’s love of entertaining drove the design of the main living areas. In the family room, we carefully arranged seating to foster easy communication and create a natural flow. A formal arrangement of two three-seater sofas, dark leather lounge chairs, and a striking display cabinet ensures both comfort and style. The room features an elegant blend of patterns, colors, and textures, including a pottery collection, colorful vintage books, and gold accents that spark conversation while maintaining a chic, balanced feel. The living room, once a combined dining and living area, was redesigned with symmetrical furniture placement to support large gatherings and clear sightlines. A low seating bench serves as a functional and aesthetic link between the two distinct groupings, and luxurious materials like glossy aged brass, antique mirrors, and velvet surfaces add warmth and sophistication.

TV Room

Great Room
The previously underutilized great room, with its soaring double-height ceilings and abundant natural light, was transformed into a vibrant family entertainment area. The design team focused on creating a space that would be both functional and inviting for the entire family. Custom millwork was integrated to provide ample storage while showcasing an innovative design that celebrates the negative space between top and bottom cabinetry. The asymmetrical millwork layout, held together by open brass metal shelves, adds a touch of modern elegance to the space. Complementary white, navy, and brass tones were carefully chosen to unify the design, ensuring the space feels both cohesive and visually interesting. A custom sofa was placed in front of a large TV, with an integrated desk extending from beneath the television to allow family members to work while still enjoying the space. The overall design maximizes the room’s potential, creating an ideal spot for both relaxation and socializing, whether the kids are hosting friends or the family is lounging together.
