Duke's Castle Barbershop Interior Design
Through a space planning exercise with the design team, the flow of the space was to connect the area where baking happens with the main dining space, merging the cafe’s two main programs. This allowed visitors to take part in some of the magic behind the scenes, as the scent of freshly made bread and pastries fills the space.
Upon brainstorming with their marketing team prisms and iridescence effect of light on surfaces became the originating concept for the interiors and the overall branding and packaging.
Clients took over a bakery shop that was previously operating in this location for 25+ years. Brought on RZ Interiors to re-imagine this space to design a modern boutique French bakery with a light and airy overall feel.

Challenges
A dynamic and ever- changing interior environment was curated using Dichroic surfaces, throughout this boutique bakery, Lumiere Patisserie, in the heart of North York. From the exterior façade the branded shimmering roof attracts the attention of people driving by and walking in the neighbourhood. Upon entry, guests are drawn to a multi layered hexagon ceiling feature to define a centerpiece and draw their eyes down to the service counter with a repeated a semi hexagon form that is the primary surface for display, sales, and interaction.
Interior Design
Dichroic film applied on ceramic wall tiles serve as a backdrop for the bread display shelves. Ever evolving Dichoric glass table tops inviting patrons to sit and capture images of the intricately made pastries laid on the table. Custom wallpaper to draw the eyes towards the back kitchen. The interiors, inspired by various forms of prism, notably a multi layered hexagon anchoring the ceiling plane, triangular table tops with legs forming a rhombus. Every piece of furniture was designed by the studio and made to order. The tables were designed not only to obtain more space for user’s to walk around but to be able to put them side by side for workshop sessions at the bakery.
